Benevity

The Calgary B Corp that turned workplace giving into global infrastructure

Benevity has spent nearly two decades building the software that lets companies and their people give, volunteer and grant at scale. It practises what it sells, with donation matching, volunteer rewards and stock options for every hire, and it became one of the Prairies' first unicorns when Hg took a majority stake in 2020.

01 · Culture

How they work

Our viewBenevity has been a certified B Corp since 2011, and its B Impact score of 117.5 is well above the 80-point bar, with a strong showing in the Workers category. The benefits match the mission: the company matches employee donations, rewards volunteering with funds to give away, and offers stock options to everyone who joins. Four weeks of vacation as a floor, gender-neutral parental top-ups and flexible hybrid work complete the picture.

02 · Capabilities

What they do best

Our viewBenevity runs the giving, volunteering and grant-making platform behind many of the world's best-known employers, and it now packages these tools as an Enterprise Impact Platform with AI features. Its edge comes from scale and trust: millions of vetted nonprofits and tens of billions of dollars moved since 2008.

03 · Capital

Who backs them, and what they back

Acquired

Our viewBenevity grew on venture money from JMI Equity and General Atlantic. In 2020, UK private-equity firm Hg took a majority stake at a valuation above US$1 billion. Impact investors The Rise Fund and Generation Investment Management, together with the Canadian pension funds CPPIB, AIMCo and Vestcor, joined the cap table, and Benevity has spent some of that capital on acquisitions, buying Alaya in Switzerland and Chaordix in Calgary.
