Turning captured CO2 into stronger concrete, with straight talk as a core value

From a Dartmouth base, CarbonCure has put its CO2 mineralization systems into hundreds of concrete plants in nearly 30 countries. A values-led, hybrid team and a syndicate that includes Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Amazon and Microsoft have carried a Nova Scotia idea to 10 million truckloads of lower-carbon concrete.

01 · Culture

How they work

Our viewCarbonCure writes its culture down plainly: six values, from Straight Talk to A Thriving Team, and benefits that reward results with time off, including a company-wide winter break and Summer Fridays. It runs a hybrid Dartmouth headquarters with remote staff and regional hubs worldwide. Third-party recognition so far is for its innovation rather than its workplace; we found no employer-list rankings.

02 · Capabilities

What they do best

Our viewCarbonCure's edge is a drop-in retrofit: concrete producers inject captured CO2 into fresh concrete, where it mineralizes permanently and lets them use less cement without losing strength. The model is built around producer profitability, and the company also sells carbon-removal credits from that stored CO2. 2026 research with MIT added molecular-level evidence for why it works.

Science validation

In June 2026 MIT and CarbonCure researchers published direct evidence of how CO2 drives early strength gains in cement and concrete at the molecular level. source ↗

Carbon removal credits

03 · Capital

Who backs them, and what they back

Venture-backed

Our viewCarbonCure is venture-backed by an unusually strategic syndicate: its US$80M 2023 round was led by Blue Earth Capital with Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund, Microsoft's Climate Innovation Fund and Samsung Ventures. Early federal support from ACOA and SDTC helped de-risk the technology, and carbon-credit sales add a second revenue line.
