Proof that a Canadian software company can be both human and high-performing

Clio built the operating system for law firms from Burnaby and has spent seven straight years on Canada's Top 100 Employers list while doing it. Its culture rests on flexible, distributed work and published pay ranges, and Canada's largest software financings have now turned it into a global acquirer.

01 · Culture

How they work

Our viewClio is one of the most consistently recognized employers in Canadian tech: seven consecutive years on Canada's Top 100 Employers, nine on BC's Top Employers, and a 2025 Most Admired Corporate Culture. Two choices make it stand out. It publishes pay transparency on every global role, and its 'Distributed by Design' model treats flexibility as deliberate rather than a pandemic leftover.

02 · Capabilities

What they do best

Our viewClio started as cloud practice management for small law firms and now spans the whole legal workflow, from Clio Manage to its AI workspace Clio Work and vLex's Vincent research platform. The vLex deal added a legal database of more than a billion documents across 110 jurisdictions. Clio passed US$500 million in annual recurring revenue in 2026 and says it is profitable while still accelerating.

03 · Capital

Who backs them, and what they back

Venture-backed

Our viewClio is venture-backed and privately held, with back-to-back records for Canadian software: a US$900 million Series F in 2024 and a US$500 million Series G at a US$5 billion valuation in 2025, both led by NEA. It now deploys that capital as an acquirer. The US$1 billion vLex purchase is described as the largest M&A deal in legal tech history.
