Halifax-run utilities with a speak-up safety culture, from Nova Scotia to Florida

From its head office on the Halifax waterfront, Emera runs electric and gas utilities serving about 2.1 million customers in Canada, the United States and the Caribbean. It is one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2026, and it pairs a $20 billion five-year capital plan with equity partnerships with Mi'kmaw communities. In 2025 it added a New York listing to its long-standing TSX one.

01 · Culture

How they work

Our viewEmera leads with five plain values (Safety, Customers, Candour, Care and Excellence), and its safety value explicitly asks for a "speak up" culture. Mediacorp named it one of Canada's Top 100 Employers and Atlantic Canada's Top Employers for 2026, and one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers, citing a 35-hour work week, tuition support and new employee resource groups, including one for Mi'kmaw and Indigenous employees.
