Genetec

A founder-led security software leader that turns hundreds of interns into engineers

Genetec has spent nearly three decades building open-architecture security software from Montréal, and analysts now rank it first in video management. It grew without a stock listing, putting its weight behind people instead: one of Canada's largest internship programs, an R&D-led learning culture and a headquarters campus it keeps expanding.

01 · Culture

How they work

Our viewGenetec's culture is built around curiosity and early-career talent. Mediacorp has named it one of Canada's Top Employers for Young People three years running, citing more than 300 paid interns a year, a Women in Engineering mentoring program and an R&D-run Knowledge Program of TechTalks and Lightning Talks. Founder Pierre Racz frames the whole thing as hiring brilliant people and trusting them to experiment.

03 · Capital

Who backs them, and what they back

Bootstrapped

Our viewGenetec is privately held and still led by its founder, so it publishes no revenue and has no listing. The capital story is reinvestment: a Montréal campus grown to five buildings, new R&D hubs and experience centres from Sydney to Washington, and a pipeline of paid interns.

Capital they deploy

What we could not confirm (3)
  • Montréal's Top Employers: trade press (2022) reports a 16th consecutive win, but Genetec was not confirmed on the 2026 issuer list.
  • Ownership: widely described as privately held and founder-controlled with no outside venture capital. No primary source found stating its ownership structure; 'Bootstrapped' is our best fit.
  • Revenue is not published.
