Kudos

A Calgary culture company that runs on its own product: saying thank you

Kudos builds recognition and rewards software used by organizations in more than 140 countries, and it holds itself to the culture it sells. Waterstone has named its culture and its CEO among Canada's most admired. A Canadian Business Growth Fund investment and federal expansion funding helped take a Calgary idea to a global customer base.

01 · Culture

How they work

Our viewKudos has been recognized for both its corporate culture and its leadership by Waterstone, Canada's main culture award. It names five values, including a deliberately misspelled 'Kollaboration', and calls its people Kudosians. The workplace is distributed, with half-day Fridays in summer, professional development funds and a parental leave program. The 2023 restructuring shows that even culture-first companies face hard calls, and its recognition record is mostly from 2022–2023.

03 · Capital

Who backs them, and what they back

Venture-backedRaised About C$17M · 2021-12 source ↗

Our viewKudos has grown on modest capital. It had raised about C$17 million by 2021, and its largest cheque was a C$10 million minority investment from the Canadian Business Growth Fund, a patient-capital fund backed by Canada's banks. That year it also received C$1 million in federal funding to expand into new markets.
