Moment Factory

Montréal's studio of "digital campfires", where every employee is cast, not hired

Two Montréal VJs founded Moment Factory in 2001; it has since created more than 550 immersive projects, from Lumina Night Walks to Sphere in Las Vegas. It stayed founder-controlled for over two decades before opening its capital to Financière Outremont in 2024, and it invests in its 450-plus creatives through an in-house school and three prototyping labs.

01 · Culture

How they work

Our viewMoment Factory treats culture as a craft. It runs an employee-built MF School with more than 25 courses, keeps prototyping labs in Montréal, Paris and Tokyo where people are encouraged to try and fail, and invites anyone to pitch projects. The team spans eighteen nationalities. We found no third-party workplace rankings, so this view rests on the studio's own published commitments and its founders' national honour.

02 · Capabilities

What they do best

Our viewMoment Factory combines video, lighting, architecture, sound, special effects and storytelling into large-scale shared experiences, from stadium tours and the Super Bowl halftime show to permanent destinations. Its own runtime platform, X-Agora, now underpins installations designed to run reliably "night after night".

03 · Capital

Who backs them, and what they back

Venture-backed

Our viewMoment Factory grew mostly on its own revenue, backed by Québec institutional partners: in 2016 La Caisse (CDPQ) put C$18 million into a new entity for permanent installations. In September 2024 it brought in its first outside shareholder, Pierre Karl Péladeau's Financière Outremont, as a minority investor, to fund a new division and international expansion.

What we could not confirm (4)
  • No third-party workplace recognition (Top Employers, Great Place to Work, B Corp, Les Affaires) found for Moment Factory.
  • Current CEO/president not confirmed at a primary source.
  • Revenue not published; size of the Financière Outremont stake undisclosed.
  • Fasken describes the 2024 deal as Moment Factory's first opening of its capital to outside investment, which sits awkwardly with the 2016 CDPQ investment (made in a new entity) and earlier Desjardins/CDPQ financing.
