1Password
Turned a bootstrapped password manager into a remote-first security leader built on trust
1Password was founded in Toronto in 2005 by two couples and ran on its own revenue, profitably, for 14 years before taking outside capital. It now passes US$400 million in annual recurring revenue and secures 180,000 businesses. It has been remote-first from the start and treats trust as the core of how its team works.

How they workLeur façon de travailler
Our viewNotre avis1Password worked remotely long before most companies did, and it ties that culture to trust and transparent expectations. Mediacorp named it one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2025, citing parental-leave top-ups to 100 per cent of salary, a home-office allowance and paid volunteer days. Staff also share in its success through an equity program.

Our viewNotre avis1Password grew from a consumer password manager into what it calls Extended Access Management, which secures credentials, devices and unmanaged apps across a whole company. Its newest work is aimed at giving AI agents trusted access. Business customers account for most of its revenue, including more than 30 per cent of the Fortune 100.

Our viewNotre avis1Password reversed the usual startup sequence: it was profitable from its first year and bootstrapped for 14 years before raising a US$200-million Series A in 2019. It has since raised about US$920 million, including a US$620-million Series C at a US$6.8-billion valuation. It has used that capital to buy companies that extend its platform.
